How do you save money when you’re moving to a different house? Well, there are many ways to save money during a move, and one of them causes you to move more. Another way is to use your vehicle and another vehicle. Minus the cost of the move, do not get anything new in the house for the first few months. Clean everything, and save extra costs with cleaning personnel. Let’s get right into it!
Move Yourself
If you are looking to save money during a move, then get friends and family to help you move. As moving is a thing that I have done quite frequently in my life, something that has saved me a lot of money has been moving all my own stuff. If you load your stuff by yourself, and you drive it there and unload it by yourself, you will save a ton of money by not paying movers for the move. However, I would highly recommend taking a few days off of work to move all of your stuff into the house as you’ll be exhausted when you’re finished moving everything in and out. That doesn’t include family or friend’s help. If they are willing to help, then take all the help you can get.
Vehicles
If you are looking to save money further, then use your vehicle to drive your stuff to your new place. Rental trucks can be expensive, so while you need a truck, you can use a smaller truck that has enough space to carry your big furniture. When all the furniture is loaded in, pack the bigger boxes in the truck along the sides and the front. That ensures that everything big is loaded in the truck. Then, all of the remaining items should be small enough to pack into your vehicle(s). Then drive the truck and personal car yourself, and unload it yourself. Also, always put the televisions in your car to ensure control over how it moves and to make sure that it doesn’t get broken.
Don’t Spend for the New House
If you are like many Americans, you like your house to look beautiful. This could be exterior or interior decorations. As tempted as you’ll be to buy new decorations for your home to make it look better, and so that it has a unique and personal touch, don’t. This is one of the best ways to spend so much money on the move, and by telling yourself not to spend on new furnishings, you will save yourself a ton of money. Trust me. You’ll thank me a few months later when you have money to eat.
Cleaning
Clean your own house, and don’t pay for cleaning services. I know it may sound like a rich or upper-middle-class type of work. However, everyone can feel like doing this, especially when you move by yourself. So my advice is to save yourself the money and clean yourself. Many maid services are cheap and affordable, but since this is about saving money and not spending it, you need to refrain from hiring any cleaning service.
Conclusion
If you follow all of the above steps, there is no reason you can’t save money. However, let’s do the math. Say, and these are exaggerated figures that you need to move, and you hire North American Van Lines to move all of your stuff for you. You pay for them to load it into their truck, and they drive it to your new home. Now they unload the truck, say you moved two hours away. Now you paid for 3 hours of loading, two hours of driving, and three more hours of unloading. This costs you $20 per mover per hour, and you hired three. Now $60 times 8 hours is $480 for the day. Okay, but you could just rent a truck for three days for $200 and move everything yourself, saving $280, and that’s only one example. I could go on, but this article summarizes the best ways to save you money while you’re moving to your new home.
