Tips on How to Make Your Simple Home Looks More Elegant

May 7, 2019 by Ally Leave a Comment

Many people dream of living in a beautiful and comfortable place. However, if you happen to have a dull looking home you need to exert some effort and spend some money to transform it into an elegant living space. You have an option to add essential pieces in your home such as a freestanding bath in the bathroom or a new granite countertop in the kitchen. With so many ideas running around in your mind it is quite challenging to make the most suitable choices. To help you push through with these home improvement projects here are some tips to get you started.

Repaint the entire area

One way to give your home an instant makeover is by changing the paint colour on each part of the house. If you need help in choosing the best colour combination for each room, you may seek professional advice from an interior designer who can help you visualise what your place will look like after the paint job. In general, it is safe to choose earth colours like cream, beige and light brown that will give the house a more refreshing look.

Update pieces of furniture

Old furniture can make the house look boring and outdated. You can start with replacing the couches and old throw pillows as well as adding new decorations like wall paintings to give the living room a modern and more sophisticated vibe. You can also replace the entire dining room space as long as the budget will not be an issue.

Make your space clutter-free

Too much clutter around the house can be an eyesore and cause negative comments from your visitors. Always make it a point to clear your tables and counters from unnecessary items. Receipts, bills, catalogues and mail should be sorted out and stacked in a separate box. Other small things like remote controls and car keys should be placed in a basket or container where it will not be seen lying around the table. Make it a habit to return all items to their designated places after using to prevent clutter from building up.

Make sure that the entire house smells fresh and clean

If you want your place to look elegant, then it must also smell good. If you love to cook, chances are the entire house can sometimes smell like food. To avoid this from happening, install an exhaust fan in the kitchen and use diffusers to help get rid of any unpleasant smell. Make sure to deodorize carpets with baking soda at least once a week to keep your home smelling fresh at all times.

Less is more

Excessive decorations and ornaments around the house can be challenging to clean and maintain especially if you are busy with work. It is best to stick with a few pieces that will still draw compliments from visitors, like family portraits and your favourite paintings.

It is best to stick to simple but elegant looking furniture designs and accessories rather than over decorate your entire space.
