DIY Home Repair Tips

December 17, 2021 by Ally Leave a Comment

If you assumed that past generations were more adept at fixing items around the home, think again as despite popular beliefs today’s young adults and middle aged adults are just as handy around their homes as their parents and grandparents. To discover how each generation feels about DIY projects and to discover a few inspiring ideas, simply continue reading.

How Each Generation Feels About DIY:

Both baby boomers and generation x responded in a recent survey claiming that they learned their DIY handy skills from their parents and grandparents. Which shows that most individuals gain the confidence to start tackling DIY projects as young adults, with the guidance of older family members who have plenty of experience and tips to share with them.

However the younger generations, which are millennials and generation z often turn to online videos, when they want to learn how to complete a DIY project that they’ve never completed before. As younger generations of adults are very comfortable with technology and being able to gain the answers to their queries with a few clicks of a button.

Different generations also placed a different level of importance onto different life skills. While younger generations believe that home maintenance skills are most important, older generations on average tend to see communication skills as being the most important life skills that everyone should aspire to hone.

DIY Home Repair Tips:

Watch online tutorials before you attempt a new DIY project:

You don’t have to be a millennial or a member of generation z to follow this tip, if you don’t know how to complete a simple DIY project such as painting your home’s exterior walls and don’t have a DIY obsessed family member or friend to guide you, turn to YouTube tutorials for advice. If you don’t understand one of the instructions, you can ask the comment section for help. If you’re lucky the uploader of the video may even respond to your question themselves!

Turn to older generations for help:

In the same survey, millennials revealed that they were interested in turning to older individuals who they trusted in order to learn more tips about gardening and home maintenance. Whatever generation you were born into, it’s also a great idea to turn to older generations for advice. If you don’t have a parent or grandparent who you can turn to for such advice, you may want to ask an older neighbor or an older colleague for advice. As chances are high that they’ll be more than happy to impart their wisdom to you.

Ask for help at your local building supplies stores:

Another place that you can go to for advice is your local building supplies store as the staff will be able to provide you with expert guidance and should be able to help you choose the right tools and products for your DIY projects.

So in conclusion, no matter what generation that you come from, it’s a great idea to turn to skilled individuals and the internet in order to become more adept at completing DIY projects.
