3 Tips For More Comfortable Outdoor Dining At Home

August 9, 2020 by Ally Leave a Comment

If you live in an area of the world that has beautiful, welcoming evenings where you want to just sit outside and enjoy, one great way to make this activity a greater part of your life is by setting up an outdoor dining area at your home. However, in order for this to be something that adds to your dining experience rather than taking away from it, you’ll need to make sure that everyone’s comfortable in this environment.

To help you accomplish this, here are three tips for a more comfortable outdoor dining area at home.

Select Cozy Seating Options

The first thing you’ll want to focus on when creating a comfortable outdoor dining area is seating. Without comfortable seating, no one is going to want to spend the length of their entire meal sitting outside.

To help you acquire the best seating options for your space, the editors of Real Simple recommends getting comfortable, cushioned chairs. By allowing people a soft seat, you’ll encourage them to sit and truly enjoy their meal rather than trying to eat as fast as they can so they can get back to the comfort inside your home. And, to help make things easier on yourself, try to pick cozy, cushioned seats that are made of weatherproof materials so that you don’t have to worry about them getting ruined if you leave them outside.

Give Yourself Some Cover

Just because the weather was great while you were preparing your meal doesn’t necessarily mean that it will stay pleasant throughout the entirety of that meal. Because of this, it’s wise to give some sort of cover over your outdoor dining area.

While this can be done by buying a canopy or building an awning or pergola, Heather MacIsaac, a contributor to This Old House, shares that you can also make your own cover by draping fabric over some poles that you’ve stuck in the ground. This is an easy way to give your dining area some shade or some rain cover if the weather goes sideways on you.

Set The Mood

Having a comfortable outdoor dining area is more than just a comfortable seat and a place to set your plate. To really give yourself and others a great experience, you really need to set the mood within your space.

To do this, Lisa Hallett Taylor, a contributor to The Spruce, recommends doing things like planting greenery or potting flowers around your table, setting up speakers for some soft mood music to play, and adding some ambient outdoor lighting so that you can enjoy your time outdoors regardless of how late it gets into the night.

If you want to have a great outdoor dining area on your property, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you set up a comfortable space.
