5 Tips For Decorating a Home With Limited Space

September 20, 2022 by Ally Leave a Comment

Don’t make the mistake of believing that living in a small space should hold you back from decorating your home exactly the way you want it to be. The truth is that there are all sorts of creative things you can do to make the most of the space that you have, and bring the focus where it should be by moving the focus away from where it shouldn’t be.

So, if you’re struggling with how to decorate your small living space, then look no further than these tips.

Incorporate Multi-Purpose Furniture

Rather than having multiple pieces of furniture that each serve a unique purpose, try to find pieces that can be used for multiple things. Adding an ottoman is a great way to have a coffee table, a foot rest or even extra seating. You can also consider foldable tables and chairs that you pull out only when you need them. The more space you can save, the more open your space will feel.

Focus on Light

The more light you allow into a room, the more spacious that will feel. Try to open your curtains as much as possible, as natural light is your best friend. Otherwise try to strategically place lamps throughout the room to make your house look bigger. Since floor lamps can tend to take up a lot of room, consider adding lighting to shelves, or even mounting them on the wall.

Focus on Light Colors

In addition to opening your curtains, and adding artificial light, you should also focus on adding light colors to your living space. The more light colors you add the more light will reflect throughout your home, and the more spacious everything will feel. Focus on white, beige, or even light pastels. If you add dark colors it will swallow up all of the light in your room and make it look even smaller than it is.

Use Mirrors

Mirrors are one of the oldest tricks in the book for making your home look bigger. Adding mirrors on every wall can cause your home to look significantly larger. The best part is that mirrors are relatively affordable, and extremely effective for giving the impression that your house has even more space.

Purge

In addition to testing out tricks to make your house look bigger, you should also consider downsizing your belongings. Getting rid of things that you don’t need by doing a purge can be one of the best things you do to gain space.

Whether you decide to give it all away, sell some things online, or even have a garage sale, getting rid of stuff that doesn’t have a purpose being in the middle of your home can be one of the best things you do for remedying an overcrowded home.
