How To Entertain Your Kids Without Electronics

January 10, 2019 by Ally Leave a Comment

Parenting can sometimes feel impossible, especially if you’re trying to do it without the help of electronics. The easiest way to keep kids entertained these days is by handing them a tablet or plopping them down in front of their favorite cartoon. Although this is almost always effective, this parenting method won’t win you a “parent of the year” award by any means.

Disconnecting from electronics can seem nearly impossible; it seems like more and more adults have developed a personal attachment to their smartphones and laptops. You don’t need to give up scrolling through Facebook and playing online gambling games – click here to read more about crypto lotteries – but just limit these things when you’re spending time with your children.

Using electronics to entertain your children is sometimes completely necessary, especially on rainy or snowy days. If you need an hour of peace and quiet to unwind, resorting to Netflix can be a must. But don’t be a parent who resorts to this 100% of the time. Here are some ways you can keep your kids entertained without the constant use of electronics.

Don’t be afraid to get messy

Making a mess might seem like a scary notion to some parents, but keep in mind just about every mess can be cleaned up. Put down some newspaper and start crafting with paint, sparkles, sequins, crayons, glue sticks, and whatever you have on hand.

If your kids are old enough, let them help you out with making pancakes, muffins, or cookies. They will love cracking eggs and mixing dough. At the end you’ll all get to enjoy the finished product together.

Utilize free kid-friendly programs in your area

You might not even realize it, but there are definitely some kid-friendly programs being offered in your area. And the best part? A lot of these programs and events are free of charge. Check with your local library first; almost every public American library offers weekly or biweekly programs for kids of all ages.

You can even find free or low-cost programs offered by major companies like Barnes and Noble, Lego, Apple, and Home Depot. Just do a bit of research and you’ll be sure to find something in your area for next to nothing (or no cost at all).

Think “road trip” from the comforts of home

When you embark on a long road trip, your main concern as a parent is to keep the kiddos busy. Why can’t this be the same for just hanging around the house? Think of common road trip games you have played as a family and bring those to the home. Of course, the license plate game doesn’t apply here, but there are still plenty of options.

Pinterest could be your best friend

There is no shame in getting your inspiration from fellow parents. This is where Pinterest comes in handy. You can find everything from vegan recipes to DIY kid-friendly crafts by scrolling through this handy resource. Create an account and start exploring the endless options. You’ll get tons of ideas on how to keep your kids busy.
