Wicked Awesome Wednesday #145

It's time for Wicked Awesome Wednesday #145.

A little bit of book news!

I haven't talked about it here in a while, but I've been working on my book over the past year.  I also started a short story in December.

It's really fun and frustrating at the same time.  Some parts come out great...other parts make me want to tear out my hair.

I have a lot to learn about writing fiction. But if you're interested in hearing more about my journey, you can follow the Facebook page I just started. I'll post updates on how the book is going, and share interesting news about books and reading.

Come on over and join the conversation.  See the "notes" page to read how it all started, and how I had interest in my book from an editor.

Christie from An Everyday Blessing shared her recipe for baked pineapple chicken.

Denise from A Second Time Around Finds shared several items from her collection of antique Scottish items.

Loni from Clearwater Cottage made a beautiful Regency embroidered blue silk gown.

Beckwith from Beckwith's Treasures painted some bird silhouettes on a lampshade.

Wicked Awesome Wednesday #144

It's time for Wicked Awesome Wednesday #144.

Things are slightly better the last few days.  Thanks for being patient and coming back this week for the party.

We need to brace ourselves for more freezing weather and snow starting tonight.  Would you believe I'm legitimately out of milk? I wonder if there will be any milk left in the little pharmacy where I shop.  People go crazy buying milk and bread up here before a storm.

Jill from The Rozy Home made some no sew tie-up shades.

Kim from The Kim Six Fix shared her retro industrial ceiling fan makeover.

Jon and Ann from Summers Acres showed us how to make crab apple jelly.

Meesh from i meesh u shared her Swedish headboard paint tutorial.

Linda from Paper Seedlings made a pretty paper quilt card.

Tammy from The Colored Door made placemat pillows.

Having a really rough time...

Things are rough around here, with various parts of my life.  Sorry to be vague but we're dealing with health problems, issues with school, etc, and everything seems to be hitting at once.  The dreary winter weather just seems to make everything harder, too.

I hope to have Wicked Awesome Wednesday up next week.

Wicked Awesome Wednesday #143

It's time for Wicked Awesome Wednesday #143.

Cold enough for ya? It actually hurts to go outside. Yowza.  Looking forward to temps climbing back into the 40s soon...that sounds so balmy in comparison.

I want to ask you guys for help with something:
A fundraiser for my dear friend Kathy and her husband, Tony.

Kathy's husband Tony has leukemia, and they need to travel to Seattle for a bone marrow transplant. Medical insurance will cover the cost of the treatment, but will unfortunately not cover the significant cost of lodging, transportation, and related expenses. They will need to be in Seattle for at least 3 months.

Kathy has been such a good friend to me for years. We've brainstormed ideas for our businesses together, and she's recently helped me through a really rough time.

I haven't done anything like this on my blog before, but I wanted to ask for help now. Please consider a small donation if you can.

If several people make donations, even small ones, we can really make a difference in Kathy and Tony's life.

Thanks for reading.

Lydia from Pudel-design shared her best DIY projects of 2013.

Amber from Adventures in Mindful Living shared a recipe for roasted red pepper and tomato soup.

Kathryn from Singing Through the Rain did a fantastic job changing a small room into a nursery.

Barb from Turtles and Tails shared a great tutorial on making a vintage book coat rack.

Elizabeth from Real Inspired showed us her homemade Christmas pillows.

Wicked Awesome Wednesday #142

It's time for Wicked Awesome Wednesday #142.

Happy New Year! I was having technical difficulties with my blog last night, so I'm putting the blog party up today.*  So if you're home today and have projects to post, here you go!

*No, I wasn't drinking. Really.  I was eating chocolate and watching the Three Stooges marathon after Handy Man and Handy Boy went to bed.  I lead a really exiting life.
Diane from Creative Destinations Guide showed us how to make a Christmas poinsettia tag. You could use her methods to make personalized tags for weddings, birthdays, etc.

Steph from Crafting in the Rain showed us how to make hexagon thumb tacks.

Mallory from Because I Like Chocolate shared a recipe for nanaimo bars.  I've never heard of nanaimo bars before, but these look gooood!

Barbara from DIY Home Staging shared a tutorial for making an easy felt wreath. She also has an example of a white/snowy wreath that would be great for winter.

Janet from One Acre Farm made eggnog ice cream with rum raisin sauce.  The ice cream is home made.
