Alternate Title:
Proof That We Used to Be Skinny
I don't usually post on Tuesdays, but I thought it would be fun to show some photos of our wedding day, since today is our 14th anniversary.
Now, these photos aren't the best, and here's why: the actual photos are great in person; but they live in a scrapbook I made. I do have negatives, but...that's a lot of work and I'm feeling kinda lazy right now. I did put the photos through Picnik so they'd look a little better.
So, these are photos of photos. If you want to see the real scrapbook, just ask next time you visit. ;-)
After the ceremony. This looks like your usual, "kiss the bride" photo, right? Afterwards, I asked Rob why that kiss was so...weird. He gave me this teeny, tiny, pursed-lips kiss that cracked me up.
He told me that just before the ceremony, the photographer warned him that when he kissed me, not to open his mouth even a teeny tiny bit, or it would look like he had "fish lips" in the photo. He took her very seriously.
 |
| The most chaste kiss you'll ever see outside of a Disney movie. |
I love this one. And no, he wasn't saying anything sweet and romantic. I think he was telling me what he had for breakfast that day.
 |
| Those eggs I had this morning were great. |
Another funny-lipped kiss. I'd been warned by now, though.
 |
| Can we eat now? I'm stahvin'! |
 |
| Cake! Nom, nom, nom! |
This next one cracks me up. Our photographer was very careful not to get a pole, a tree, or anything bizarre sticking up out of the back of someone's head.
But, she missed this one. Oh yes, it's just a plant in the background. But the leaves are making tiny little devil horns on the top of Handy Man's head. Look closely, do you see that? Hee hee.
 |
| The cake was wicked yummy. |
I don't really have a good explanation for this next photo. She made Rob look at the camera, but had me stare off dreamily into the distance...
What can I say, it was the 90s...
 |
| My face hurts from smiling. |

This is a funny photo. During the reception, we went outside for a few minutes to take some photos. It had rained in the morning, and we were waiting for the grass to dry a bit.
I wanted to put my train down. It was held up by little, tiny buttons; and little, tiny threads that were very, very hard to unhook. If you look closely, you can see my poor little Maid of Honor in between Rob's head and mine. She struggled with it for a couple of minutes and finally said "I need help!" Rob to the rescue. As usual.
Is there anything that man can't fix?
This next one is interesting. Of course, I had the usual everyone-stand-in-a-line, posed, formal photos. But I also wanted the photographer to take some fun photos. I saw a pose like this in a bridal magazine, and wanted to try it.
Remember: 1997.
People have strong reactions to this photo. Either they love it, or they hate it. And the people who hate it love to tell me how much they hate it. I had plenty of formal photos taken, I just wanted to try something fun. So sue me! I like it. It really shows the lace detail on my dress, which is hard to see in some of the photos.
For fabric geeks, the dress material is peau de soie. You pronounce it poh de swa. Or, as we liked to call it, pooey de sooey. I didn't know how to pronounce it, I just liked how it looked and felt. I had the dress made, so I picked the material, the lace, etc, and designed it. Yes I did!
Someone else sewed it. Don't get any crazy ideas thinking I made it; I can't even sew on a button. I'm crafty, but I'm not that crafty.
I know this next one is crooked, but I had to show the scrapbook caption:
 |
| Yes, I'm a smart aleck even in my scrapbooks. |
Ah, weddings. The only time in her life a girl can wear a veil and white gloves.
And pearls! All at the same time!
This next one is a little blurry, but it's the typical "wave goodbye" photo. A little cheesy, no? Do they still do this at weddings?
 |
| Please. Make it stop. |
Yes, our "getaway car" was a pickup truck. Very classy, huh? In Rob's defense, it was pretty new at the time, and he gave it a good cleaning. My car at the time was old and grody. Believe me, this was the better choice.
A few more fun facts:
- I had two Maids of Honor. They were sisters. The one mentioned above, Holly, was 17 at the time. She was a senior in high school and had braces. I like to call her my "Maidlet," since she was so young.
- Holly and her hubby were also married on September 20th, in 2008. So today is their anniversary, too. Happy Anniversary!
- Holly's sister, Annie, was 23 at the time. She was married in 2000, and she and her husband have two sweet little girls. Annie had to leave the day after our wedding for a college semester abroad in England. Now that's true Maidlet devotion!
- I was 25 at the time, and Rob had just turned 26.
- I was a Matron of Honor in both Holly and Annie's weddings. Being called a Matron made me feel OLD.
- I was pregnant with Handy Boy at Annie's wedding, and the seamstress had to keep letting out my dress.
- What can I say? I like to eat.
If you want to read about Handy Man's true devotion to me, you can see the post I wrote last week about how he cleaned up a real yucky mess for me once. Warning: There's talk of poo, and some swearing in that post.
