Weird & Wacky Kitchen Gadgets

Once in a while, we like to shop in kitchen stores and check out the latest gadgets.  We have plenty of kitchen gadgets...but I couldn't help looking at everything for sale in this huge kitchen store.

Here are some of the odd things I found, that I can't really imagine buying:

These little "frills" to put on the legs of meat.  Does meat really need to wear socks?
A stainless steel meatballer.  Hmmm...for people who want perfectly-formed meatballs?

Oooh, look: it also says "Ideal for shaping cookies or melon balls."  Those would be HUGE melon balls.  (Insert dirty joke here).

This wood contraption is a "chocolate mixer."  Apparently, a mere spoon will simply not do.

Ahoy, mateys!  If you want to continue that seashore theme in the kitchen, you can use these hot pink ship wine stoppers.

I don't even know what to say about this one.  He is cute, though.  He even has a name! It's "Pete" the Penguin Cocktail Shaker!

Rob just walked away, muttering "WHY are you taking a picture of that?"

For the blog, of course! Silly man.

In case you are wondering, we bought some dish cloths.  Nothing weird and wacky...at least this time!

Do you have any weird and wacky kitchen gadgets?  Do you look at kitchen gadgets like this in stores?  Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this!

I love to visit kitchen stores. Every time we go to Brason, Missouri I have to drag my husband through the ones at the outlet stores. And, I'll admit some of those are weird...but I totally have a stainless steal meatballer. Well, technically it's a Pampered Chef cookie dough scooper...but anyway it works super well and I don't have to get my hands all messy to make the meatballs. If you're a fan of homemade meatballs it might be worth a try sometime. :-)

I do have a cookie scoop that could be used to make pretty much anything that needs to be balled up. But I just thought that one was GINORMOUS! Meteor-sized meatballs, lol!

Ha ha. This is funny! Btw my mother in law uses the "frills". She is very into going all out for certain occasions. Kinda kooky.

For Christmas we gave my brother in law a bird shaped stainless steel handheld citrus juicer and made him guess what it was. (He loves gadgets). It was pretty funny.

I love a book called "The school of Essential Ingedients." It mentions a 'magic wand' that she uses to mix Mexican Hot Chocolate. I am glad you took that picture. Now I know what it looks like!

Ok.. in defense of the meatballer, I have a hard time mixing meatloaf, making meatballs because the cold makes my hands hurt so much. I can totally see the benefits of that, but I use a large Pampered chef scoop. :) Beth

The chocolate mixer is called a molinillo and is used in Mexico. My husband and I went on an all-day search for one about 10 years ago when we were visiting Mexico. (He remembered them fondly from his childhood.) Spent the whole day wandering from store to store, asking people if they sold them. It was actually really fun; we met lots of people. Finally found one at Plastimundo - go figure!

My favorite gadget, and I own two of them, is an ice cream scoop. And we don't even keep ice cream in the house, because I have a monkey on my back with a sweet tooth.

The scoops are perfect for making muffins. In fact, I have corn muffins baking right now that I scooped out with the 1-ounce scoop. The other is a 3-ounce scoop. They are handy for portioning out things like coleslaw and potato salad.

Oops. muffins are done. Later!

LOL I love doing this too! Just for the record though, if your making truffels (professionally) you have to make the chocolate lighter (put air into it, but not quite whipped) I think most people would still use a whisk because that wooden thingy looks difficult to clean. Point is... there is a method to that particular maddness :) The rest of your pics are hilarious though!
