Handy Boy's Closet, Before & After

I thought that we'd show some before and after pictures of Handy Boy's closet.

When we first moved into this house, every room had pretty standard closets.  They each had a pole, and a white wire shelf above the pole.  Lots of hanging storage, but there was a lot of wasted space.

At this point, we had already painted Handy Boy's room, and put down hardwood flooring (yes, even on the closet floor.)

Handy Man built a more sturdy wooden shelf for the closet.  Then he hung up a slightly shorter pole for clothes.  He also hung up shelves on the right and the left hand sides of the shelves.

Here it is, loaded up with Handy Boy's clothes and "stuff."

It's not usually this neat; but at least he has a lot more space for his Legos and toys.

I didn't bother to paint the shelves; because to be honest, we were doing a ton of painting at the time, and I was sick of it!  Also, I thought that we might want to change this configuration around someday, so we left the wood unfinished.

I love it! My son has the same closet (must be a generic builders thing). I need more shelves in there that are adaptable to all his legos and toys. The shelf above just isn't cutting it. I'm going to have to show my hubby this and see if we can get started on ours! Thanks for sharing and giving me a kick in the butt!

When we built, we added shelves in all the closets too. They come in handy at any age! Dropping by from Met Monday.

You gotta love an organized colset and boy are you brave to show your boy's. My son's closet was never this neat and tidy even after I cleaned it. Great job!

~ I love organized closets. My FIL and I built shelving and new closet rods for my teeny tiny closet. It's great to have a spot for everything.

Great job! We have so much wasted space in our master bedroom closets! We are definitely planning on reconfiguring them with some closet systems, but we have too many projects going on right now. I can't wait!! Yours looks great! I would love if you would link up to "Simplify for the New Year" over at A Home Made by Kiki. I am your newest follower now too.

What a nice size closet! and I love your idea to create shelves on both ends. I really like the boards you used for the selves. Looks like they will be very sturdy.

Here are two closet redos:

Nicely done! Yes, I have built out a closet. I particularly detest the wire shelving so whenever that presents itself, we replace it. There's an entry closet that needs doing in this house now!

I really love this--I am stealing your idea! My son has a similar size closet but there's just one shelf at [his] waist height. The side shelves would be a much better use of the space. Thanks!

There's no doubt an organized closet will hold a lot more. My simple shelf idea to prop the sagging closet rod turned into glamorous multi-unit storage with a few simple glass doors. And it stays neat! Pictures at:

Thanks for a great site.
